Patzer's Hanging by Duffy70 Patzer's Hanging by Duffy70
This picture was taken to accompany a poem one of my friends wrote (I have his permission to post it here, but he wishes to remain anonymous). I'd love comments on either the picture or the poem, though. :)

Unless you play chess, you might not understand some of the terminology, so I've written out some of the meanings after the poem.

...............................................................................................
Patzer's Hanging

A monochromatic, black and white world of inscrutable rules and grim edicts.
Existence, a grotesque, vexatious game and ambition, nothing but the miserable gambits and wretched strategies possessed by everyone in a sterile competition that can be won by no one.
Simply one inevitable and unenviable zugzwang after another, a black prelude to Life’s bloody endgame.
Speak ill of Death, if you will, but at least he plays by the rules.
...............................................................................................

Patzer: A poor chessplayer

Hanging: Unprotected and exposed to capture. Slang for en prise. To "hang a piece" is to lose it by failing to move or protect it.

Zugzwang: When you must move, even if it would not be advantageous to do so.

Thank you very much. :D Although, I wasn't really thinking about where on the board the pieces were meant to go, more about what would look best...

love the photo- the poem is appreciated. quite intelligent, your friend should take more credit for their works, much to modest.

Focus has done his job.I like it very much because it is simple but also so ... hard..it has a story.

very clever title :D

I like the positioning of the peaces and the focus too. I'd love to see more like this! :+fav:
